The playoff spots is getting filled.

The Pens have clinched the 6th playoff spot in the East and the battle of the two last playoff spots continues. As of now Montreal is 7th with 92p and Rangers 8th with 91p. Rangers that had a huge win last night when beating the mentioned Canadiens on home ice 3-1 is now two points ahead Florida Panthers and 6 points ahead Buffalo. I dont think the standings will change anymore despite the fact that Rangers has a back to back matchup against the Flyers. No, Florida faces of with Atlanta ,thats been doing great the last weeks, and then finishes the regular season on home ice against Alexander Ovechkins Capitals. Sorry Florida no playoff this year.

In the West Columbus is still hanging on to the 6th place in the standings yet to clinch their first playoff spot in the clubs history. With 90 points, 2 ahead of both Anaheim and St. Louis on 7th and 8th I think the Blue Jackets will have a little longer season this year than usual. Nashville, 9th with 86 points, and Minnesota, 10th with 85 points still have a chance for the playoff but I doubt they'll make it.

Oh this is exciting!

The Sens is out.

Florida Panthers was visited by Ottawa Senators and came out winning with 5-2. Panthers are still 9th with 87p in the Conference but with only one point up to the Canadiens there chance of making it to the playoffs is very good.
Ottawa Senators are now, as I thought, dashed from the playoffs. They fought good and had managed 10 wins in the last 13 games. Ranked 11th in the East Ottawa, a Stanley Cup finalist in 2007, will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 95/96 season.

Montreal Canadiens beat Chicago Blackhawks on homeice in a 4-1 win. The Canadiens 8th in the east with 88p.

Are you kiddin' me?!

Linus Omark pulls of a sick move in Swedens shootout win over Switzerland in an IIHF World Championship pregame today. Sweden won 4-3 after shootout where Linus Omark pulled of a sick move to give team Sweden the win. Linus Omark has been one of the best if not the best player in this years Swedish Elite League with 23 goals and 32 assists in 53 games. Omark was drafted in round 4th by Edmonton Oilers in 2007, #97 overall and will most likely be offered a contract for the next season. Its a shame Sweden will lose its upcoming star but its gonna be alot of fun for you guys on the other side of the atlantic. I hope Linus Omark will play for the Oilers next season.

Lundqvist shutouts Devils!

Henrik Lundqvist shutouts the New Jersey Devils in a 3-0 win on homeice.
It's Hanks 3rd shutout of the season which gives him a total of 20th shutouts in his NHL career.
Martin Brodeur couldnt keep the pucks out facing 37 shots with alot of traffic in front of him, on the other side Lundqvist stopped all 38 shots to give the Rangers a very important win in the playoff race. Lundqvist continues to prove he's one of the leagues top goalies and I wonder how long he'll have to wait before getting his well earned Vezina Trophy. I believe Brodeur will receive the award for best goalie this year again. He did set a new record in wins when reaching 552, one more than Patrick Roy.

In my opinion Lundqvist should have been awarded with the Vezina Trophy last year or the year before. He's been outstanding in the goal and a big difference maker for the Rangers in important games. Just check in this video: Henrik Lundqvist Saves

NHL Funniest Commercials

Here's a little compilation of commercials used and made by the NHL I found, its hilarious!

NHL Funniest Commercials

Push for the playoffs!

Most NHL teams only have 6 or 7 games left of the regular season. 14 of the 30 teams will go on vacation while the other 16 start the long and exciting fight for the Stanley Cup.

In the East Rangers (87p), Canadiens(86p), Panthers(85p) & Sabres(82p) are fighting for the last 2 playoff spots. Both Ottawa and The Leafs still have a teoretical chance of getting there but I doubt they make it this year. I think Rangers is in the safe zone while the Canadiens will have some trouble keeping the Panthers away. Panthers has been playing good hockey this year and a place in the playoffs would be a price itself for them, for the Canadiens anything except for a place in the playoffs would be a disaster.
On tuesday those two teams will play each a very important game. Montreal Canadiens will be visited by the Blackhawks while Ottawa Senators will visit the Florida Panthers. Ottawa stands right now 11th in the East with 76p and can get a total of 90p if they win their 7 reamining games. I believe that Ottawa, who played Stanley Cup final against the Ducks in 2007, and was defeated, won't make it into the playoffs this year, I'm sorry Ottawa.

In the West its an even harder fight for the playoff spots, Columbus on 6th right now with 86p are followed by Nashville 84p and the Blues on 83p. On the wrong side of the line the Ducks 82p, Oilers 81p and the Wild on 80p struggles to get into the playoffs. Wow is this exciting or what!?
The three teams on the right side of the line has all been doing great during the season. I'm very happy for Columbus who will go into their first playoff ever since they joined the NHL for the season 00/01. They are the only team that's never made the playoffs, but as of now they are one of the sixteen teams that will fight for the Stanley Cup through april and june.
Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers is fighting to get one of the last places to the playoffs. Not making it there would be a dissapointment for both teams that played Stanley Cup final just a few years back. Ducks which won in 2007 against Ottawa and Oilers who was defeated by the Hurricanes in 2006.

The fight goes on.
